What’s the best advice you’d give to someone younger than you?
Dear You,
If you’re reading this, you’re already doing something most people don’t learn until much later — you’re pausing long enough to ask what matters. That alone will save you years.
Let me tell you what I wish someone had told me when I was your age.
First: protect your peace early.
Not later, not “once things calm down,” not “after this relationship/job/friendship gets better.”
Your peace is the foundation everything else stands on. Guard it like it’s oxygen.
Second: choose people who choose you back.
Life is too short to chase anyone. If someone wants to be in your life, you’ll know. If they don’t, you’ll be confused. Pay attention to that difference.
Third: listen to your body.
Your body will whisper before it screams. Fatigue, tension, dread — these are messages, not inconveniences. Don’t wait for the crisis to take yourself seriously.
Fourth: you don’t have to earn your worth.
You don’t have to overperform to be loved. You don’t have to shrink to be accepted. You don’t have to apologize for existing. You are already enough.
Fifth: slow down connection.
Fast intimacy feels exciting, but real intimacy is slow, steady, and consistent. Let people reveal themselves over time. They always do.
Sixth: don’t ignore the first red flag.
The first one is the truth. Everything after that is you trying to rewrite the story.
Seventh: you’re allowed to outgrow people.
Growth is not betrayal. Sometimes the kindest thing you can do for yourself is to walk away.
Eighth: ask for help sooner.
Strength is not doing everything alone. Strength is knowing when you need support and letting people show up for you.
And finally: you are not hard to love.
You were just offering your heart to people who didn’t know how to hold it.
The right people will.
Take your time. Take yourself seriously. Take the long way if you need to.
Just don’t forget that your future self is real — and they’re counting on you.
With the kind of honesty I wish I had sooner,
—Me
