Dear Ghost and Shadow,

I’ve been thinking about you both so much. The house feels different without you — quieter in a way that doesn’t feel peaceful yet, just empty. People say the pain of losing a pet gets easier, but losing you hasn’t softened. It’s simply settled deeper, becoming part of the place inside me where love and memory live together.

Ghost, you always watched me with those knowing eyes, like you understood the things I never said out loud. Shadow, you were the calm in every room, the gentle presence that made the world feel less sharp. You were different, but you were always together — two small souls who chose each other, and somehow chose me too.

I miss the way you moved through the house. I miss the warmth of you curled nearby. I miss the quiet companionship that made even the hardest days feel survivable. You gave me a kind of love that only needed closeness.

My heart aches for one more second with you — one more breath, one more soft nudge, one more moment where everything felt right because you were here. But even in the ache, I’m grateful. Grateful for every year you stayed by my side. Grateful for the memories that rise up like light. Grateful for the way you made my heart beat a little differently, a little more gently, a little more alive.
