Abstract dark interior with gentle light beams

Darkness

The room around me is dim enough that the edges begin to blur, and my body feels as though it’s made of quieter things—breath, pulse, the gentle weight of being alive.

Darkness doesn’t threaten me here. It wraps around me like a worn quilt, one that remembers more than it reveals.

My skin feels different in this light. Not fragile—just honest. Shadows trace the places where exhaustion has settled, where love once lingered, where silence has quietly taken root. My hands rest in my lap, still for once, the faint tremor softened by the dark.

There is a beauty in this space, one that asks nothing of me. It is the beauty of being unperformed, unguarded, unseen. The beauty of a body that has carried more than it ever expected, finally allowed to exist without explanation.

In the darkness, I feel the truth of myself more clearly: the ache beneath my ribs, the steadiness of my breath, the quiet resilience held in my legs. Nothing dramatic happens here. Nothing shatters. Nothing needs to.

There is only this moment.

Only me, sitting in the soft dark, listening as my body speaks the language it has always known:

a slow inhale,

a steady exhale,

and the quiet, unwavering admission—

I am still here.
